I have this conversation with my clients all the time. A simple skin care routine is a great place to start to achieve a flawless makeup application.
Makeup can only preform at its optimal level if you (the client) have done your best to provide your skin with what it needs. How your makeup looks and wears is 90% about how you care for your skin, and 10% the makeup application itself. Even with highest quality products, makeup can only do so much on its own!
You should be consistently using products like cleanser and moisturizer! Using these both day and night will make a world of difference with how your makeup looks, wears and last throughout the day. And for the love of all things skin care USE SUNSCREEN!
Don’t know where to start? No worries! I got you! Grab a snack, pull up a chair, kick up your feet, and get ready to add my favorite products to your cart!
Here are a few of my favorites:
Cleanser: (removes makeup + dirt, oil, and environmental pollutants we accumulate through out the day)
Start with a cleansing balm or oil to remove oil-based impurities, including: makeup, sunscreen, and pollution. Then cleanse again with a water based facial cleanser like CeraVe or Cetaphil. By getting rid of oil based products first, the second water-based cleanser can really do its job to cleanse your skin.
Moisturizer: (keeps your skin hydrated)
Again with CeraVe or Cetaphil because I know so many people with different skin types that use these products and love them. Myself included! I currently have both brands in my bathroom.
Everyone needs a moisturizer even us oily girlies! If you are oily pick out something that is more matte. If you’re normal, (not overly oily or overly dry) pick out something that has the word ‘daily’ on it. If you are dry, pick out something that is thicker and more hydrating. I like to suggest Water Balm to my clients because its great for most skin types except oily skin – I use this product on nearly all of my clients.
Exfoliation: (to remove dead skin cells)
Like most skin care products there are many types of exfoliants so I like to suggest starting with something gentle or for sensitive skin. I absolutely love Sexapeel for that very reason.
It’s gentle but has wicked super powers! And you can use it on almost all your body parts. Just not the naughty bits. 😏 (Per Sonia, the creator, herself) This is hands down my most used product in my makeup kit.
