Bridal Guide: How to prep for wedding day makeup!

Over the years of doing bridal makeup for Minnesota brides, I’ve learned a few things to make the wedding morning run smoothly! These are a few helpful things you can do to prepare for your makeup application that will keep the schedule organized and prepare your skin for a beautiful, long-lasting makeup application.

Place a food / coffee order in advance

Because a hangry bridal party never ends well! Get the entire wedding party’s coffee order the night before and have it in the getting ready room before beauty services begin. Eliminating the need for a member of your bridal party having to leave to grab drinks / food will keep the timeline in check!

Steam all dresses the night prior or before hair and makeup.

Nothing will ruin your hair and makeup faster than hot steam in your face. Also, now would be a great time to cut off tags and pack a scissors for those that forgot. Having this done early in the day / day before will reduce any frantic ‘oh crap’ moments as your photographer arrives and photos are about to begin!

Wash your face. Double cleanse, baby!

Showing up with a clean, makeup-free face saves us soooo much time! Wash your face the night before and again the morning of the wedding. Nothing slows us down more than taking off yesterdays left over mascara! Then, leave the rest to us! We always start by prepping your skin with luxury skincare products before applying makeup. Doing this extra step, will ensure your makeup will apply flawlessly and last until you’re getting groovy on the dance floor!

Stay in the getting-ready area & be ready to go

Wandering away from the getting-ready space causes delays in the morning timeline. Have a room that’s large enough to hold everyone and everything you’ll need so you are ready to go! This helps keep the hair & makeup teams timeline on track and it’s fun to share the wedding morning together!

Brush your teeth + eat!

Eat + brush your teeth before getting your makeup done, that way your lips can stay fresh until the ceremony. If you’re eating and drinking after your application is finished, that’s ok!  Colgate Wisps (the mini disposable toothbrushes) are life savers to brush your teeth without ruining your lip. Just be mindful that your have lipstick on and brush lightly! Grab some on your next Target run to throw in your emergency kit or give to your personal attendant.

Have a designated drop room

Have a space where your wedding party can drop all bags, dresses, and extra items away from your main getting ready area (a place that won’t be photographed, but still easily accessible). Here’s why – there’s a lot happening on the morning of your wedding. Makeup and hair teams, photographers, wedding planners, and your wedding party are all working closely to prepare for your day! Having a separate room / closet for extra unsightly things will make your getting ready images beautiful and keep your getting ready room organized and easily accessible for everyone coming in and out. AND… there’s nothing worse than a first look photo with your bridesmaids with clutter, a random thong, and a package of hair extensions on the floor.

I hope you found these tips helpful, and don’t forget to share this with your wedding party to help your wedding morning run smoothly!
